User guide

Introduction

The FAQs, this "How to..." guide, conditions, email us, local buses and rail timetables are available without being logged into the system. If you are not logged in, return to the Welcome page at any time by clicking Welcome page in the left hand column.

Once you have registered your details, login to Carshare2Cardiff by using the username (your full email address, if you provided one) and password given to you by the system when you registered. You will be taken to your Carshare2Cardiff home page.

Register your personal details and car or journey sharing preferences

In order to be able to look for potential car or journey sharers all you have to do is complete a few personal details and your travel preferences. From the Carshare2Cardiff welcome page, click "register". Follow the instructions and complete the boxes, most of which are compulsory, for both your personal details eg: name, postcode (vital) and your specific car or journey sharing preferences eg: which days you wish to share (you don't have to share every day), what times you wish to arrive and depart on those days and a few other choices eg: whether or not you wish to smoke etc..

In order for these preferences to be saved, make sure you click on "submit" at the bottom of the page and then follow the instructions.

Login to the personalised section of the site

On the welcome page, login by entering your username and password in the appropriate boxes and then click "log me in!". This will take you to your personalised Carshare2Cardiff home page. From here you can look for potential car or journey sharers, alter your personal and employment details and change your password.

Typically your username will be your email name or email address. If you forget or have lost your password, go to the welcome page, enter your username into the 3rd box and click "remind me".

We recommend that you change your password to something you will remember more easily than the initial one generated by the system for you.

Change your password

To change your password, click "password" on your Carshare2Cardiff home page. Follow the instructions and click "continue". On the screen that this takes you to, click "continue" to go back to your home page or click "logout" in the left hand column and then go back to the welcome page to try logging in with your new password.

Alter your personal and employment details

To review or alter your personal and employment details, click "details" on your Carshare2Cardiff home page. Check all the details and change anything which is incorrect.

When any of your personal circumstances relevant to this site change, please login and update your details as soon as possible.

Once you have made any changes to the above details and options, click "submit" for those changes to be saved. Click "continue" on the acknowledgement screen in order to go back to your Carshare2Cardiff home page.

Update your car or journey sharing preferences

From your Carshare2Cardiff home page, click "preferences". Check all the details and change anything which is no longer appropriate. eg: which days you wish to share (you don't have to share every day), what times you wish to arrive and depart on those days, whether or not you wish to smoke etc..

In order for these preferences to be saved, make sure you click "submit" at the bottom of the page.

Click "continue" on the acknowledgement page to go back to your Carshare2Cardiff home page.

Look for potential car or journey sharers

To find some potential car or journey sharers, click "sharers" (on your Carshare2Cardiff home page - you need to be logged in). This takes you to the map page.

The initial matches are, by default, calculated within a radius of 5 miles of your home or departure postcode and within +/- 30 mins match on your preferred arrival and departure times. The green bubble is you, and any red bubbles which are showing are potential car or journey sharers.

If you wish to change these criteria, in order, for example, to look further afield on your journey into work or to give a less absolute match on your arrival times, then select different options from the two relevant drop down boxes and click "search".

To find out more details about the potential car or journey sharers produced by the system, either scroll down the page or click on the "sharers" link at the top of the page. The general details about your suitable potential car or journey sharers are displayed in a table with a maximum of five to a page.

Set up a new car or journey share group

Once you have contacted some other members and have arranged to set up a new car or journey share group, one of you elects to go back to the system and record your sharing arrangement. Login to your Carshare2Cardiff home page and click "groups".

Follow the instructions, type in the email addresses of your members and save the additions by clicking "new group".

Resign from Carshare2Cardiff

If you wish to resign from Carshare2Cardiff, click "resign". You will be sent a confirmation email.
