Try a 1 in 5!

Help us to improve the quality of life for all for one day a week and cut congestion in our beautiful City.

Cardiff Council is inviting its Carshare2cardiff.com member organisations, their employees and students, and employees of key City Centre organisations and businesses to 'Try a 1 in 5'. This means pledging to leave the car at home and travel by walking, cycling, public transport or car sharing on at least one day in the working week.

In this way people who participate can contribute to reducing congestion on the City's roads by up to 20%. This would be equivalent to reducing road traffic to the levels we experience when the schools are on holiday!

Download the ‘Try a 1 in 5 ‘ leaflet to see how easy it is to make a change and to find out about your options for travelling more sustainably:

"In Town Without My Car"
(European Mobility Week 2007)

Help us to keep our city’s roads free flowing and improve our environment!

Are you tired of sitting in traffic? Are you interested in sustainable mobility? Do you believe in changes? If your answer is "yes", then come and join us!

From the 16th to the 22nd September 2007 you will have the opportunity to make a positive contribution to reducing congestion in Cardiff by participating in our European Mobility Week ‘Try a 1 in 5’!

What is European Mobility Week?

European Mobility Week was launched in 2002 as an extension to the In Town, Without My Car! campaign. The week runs from 16th to 22nd September every year and provides an opportunity for towns and cities to promote sustainable travel modes. The objective is to facilitate widespread debate on the necessity for changes in urban travel patterns, and in particular the need to cut private car use.

What is In Town Without My Car?

In Town, Without My Car! (also known as Car Free Day) on 22nd September marks the end of the European Mobility week.

Each year there is an overarching theme for the week. In 2004 it was Safe Streets for Children; 2005 was Clever Commuting, and 2006 Climate Change. The theme for 2007 will be Streets for People.

What is Cardiff Council doing to mark the week this year?

This year Cardiff Council is inviting its Carshare2cardiff.com member organisations, their employees and students, and employees of key City Centre organisations and businesses to 'Try a 1 in 5'.

People can pledge their car free day by e-mailing ITWMC2007@cardiff.gov.uk

Let us know who you work for or where you study and if you would be willing to give us some feedback on your experiences... how easy you found it and whether you might consider continuing to travel more sustainably on an ongoing basis, even just once a week!

Download the ‘Try a 1 in 5‘ leaflet to see how easy it is to make a change and to find out about your options for travelling more sustainably.
